Thankful Thursday: New Job

This week I would like to share about a big change for our family. Casey got a new job! We are thankful and excited about this new opportunity for him at Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

When the local Five Guys owner hired Casey, he agreed to allow Casey to go through the management training program while still keeping his job with Target until he completes the training and has been offered a management position. On the one hand, this is a really good thing for us. It means that we will be making enough money to live off of which is not the case on the MIT pay alone. He did quit his job with the bank so he is not having to juggle three jobs. ☺ On the other hand, he is working two full-time jobs which is proving to be a physical and emotional challenge for him as well as the rest of us.

An example of his schedule until training is over:

Sunday
7am-4pm (5 Guys)
Monday
6am-1:30pm (Target) and 4pm-close [on average 12:15am] (5 Guys)
Tuesday
6am-1:30pm (Target)
Wednesday
6am-1:30pm (Target) and 4pm-close (5 Guys)
Thursday
6am-1:30pm (Target) and 4pm-close (5 Guys)
Friday
6am-1:30pm (Target)
Saturday
7am-4pm (5 Guys)

That is intense!

However, training usually takes between 3-6 weeks (MIT's have to clock about 1500 hours of training before they can take the corporate-assigned testing to pass training). He won't have to deal with this crazy schedule for too long.

We are thanking God in one breath for this new opportunity for Casey and in the next breath asking for His strength because of the challenges this opportunity presents even if only short-term. Casey is having to work much longer hours than he was even with his previous two jobs together (the bank only scheduled him 15 hrs a week and 35-40 at Target). So add that to a guy who struggles to sleep even two hours straight without waking up and you have one very tired husband and father. So, whenever possible, I am trying to let him take naps. It would be nice if we had a bedroom door (ours is broken at the hinge and extensive repair of the door-frame is necessary)! Its been about a week and we're already a little stressed from these changes. However, we are trying to remember that we are thankful for this new job and training will be over before we know it!

One thing we've learned over the last several years with varying degrees of job stability and, at times, barely adequate pay, is that God wants us to be thankful in all circumstances. The day-to-day life each of us live presents unique sets of difficulties, and even blessings - like a new job or a new baby or a new car - come with new challenges and responsibilities. God can and will give us the strength we need to handle everything in our lives if we ask Him to.

What are you thankful for this week?
